Privacy Policy

Last updated: 13 July 2026

AI2Web is an open protocol, specification and set of tools created by the AI2Web Foundation. The short version: it is built to be privacy preserving, works only with public website metadata, and does not sell data or serve advertising.

1. The website (ai2web.dev)

The informational website is a static site. It sets no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies and does not build a profile of you. Your browser and our hosting provider (Cloudflare) process standard request metadata such as IP address and user agent to serve pages and protect against abuse; this is transient operational data, not something we use to identify you.

2. The Validator (validator.ai2web.dev)

The Validator scores how well a website supports AI2Web. When you submit a URL, our service fetches that site's public AI2Web manifest server-side and returns a score, a compliance tier and per-capability checks.

  • Only the URL you submit is processed, and only to fetch and score its public manifest.
  • We do not require an account, and we do not store the URLs you validate as personal records.
  • The Validator refuses to fetch private, internal or non-public addresses.

3. The AI Readiness Checker browser extension

The origin is sent only at the moment you click the icon, is used solely to fetch and score the site's public manifest, and is not retained as a personal record.

  • What it does: when you click the extension's toolbar icon, it reads the origin (scheme and hostname) of the tab you are currently viewing and sends only that origin to validator.ai2web.dev to score that site's public AI2Web readiness. The result is shown in the popup.
  • What it does not do: it does not run in the background, does not read page content, does not track your browsing history, does not store anything on your device, uses no cookies, analytics, advertising or third-party trackers, and never sends data anywhere other than the AI2Web Validator. It requests the minimum permissions needed: activeTab (only when you click) and network access to the Validator host.

4. The Discovery Network (directory.ai2web.dev)

The optional Discovery Network is a directory of sites that support AI2Web. It stores only public metadata that a site owner chooses to submit (such as a site name, URL, capabilities and manifest location). It does not contain personal data about visitors.

5. Data we do not collect

  • We do not sell, rent or share personal data.
  • We do not serve advertising or use advertising identifiers.
  • We do not build behavioural profiles or track you across sites.

6. Cookies and local storage

The website sets no advertising, analytics or cross-site tracking cookies. Your theme preference (light or dark) is stored in your browser's local storage, which stays on your device and is never sent to us.

Our provider, Cloudflare, may set strictly-necessary security cookies (for example, to tell humans from bots on the Validator's verification challenge) to protect the service from abuse. These are functional only and carry no advertising or tracking purpose.

7. Your rights, including erasure

Because we work only with public website metadata and do not build profiles of visitors, we hold little to no personal data about you. Where we do process personal data, you have the rights granted by the GDPR and similar laws: access, rectification, restriction, objection, portability, and erasure (the "right to be forgotten", GDPR Article 17).

To exercise any of these rights, including deletion of any data associated with you, email [email protected]. We respond within 30 days. We may need to verify your identity first, and may retain the minimum data required by law.

A listed site can remove itself from the Discovery Network at any time by declaring x-ai2w-directory.list = false in its manifest, or via the directory's removal endpoint.

8. Changes

We may update this policy as AI2Web evolves. Material changes will be reflected by the "last updated" date above.
